Unhappy front strut no longer fits????

hi all.
been awhile since i posted.been super busy with work and all had been smooth with my pt.
last week i noticed my wheel bearing was making some noise,so today i decided to tackle it.evrything was going fine until i tried to put the strut back.
ive been at it for 4 hours now and im no closer!seems like its about an inch to long, and i cant even get it to clear the driveshaft.
is there some trick to getting it back on?its the front drivers side
