Default key switch

Bought a new key ignition switch. It came with 4 bags of some kind of spacers? 4 to a bag, numbered 1 thru 4 .They look like elongated horse shoes? Where do they go ??

I don't know but it sounds like you bought a Universal switch that's made to fit all different types of cars where the spacers would fit in to make it fit your cruiser.

I was hopeing you would take a intrest in my problem. Thank you, Bob. Now with a new batt. electric switch and key switch I have lots of power to everything. Can only shut it down by removing the batt. cable??? switched everything back to old parts except batt. Still power on with key turned off and out of switch, Would a relay stuck open cause this? I'm not eletrical.

Bob,

I'm not a mechanic. Only pass on what I've seen or heard or can find in the Haynes or Chilton manuals and also what I find on a Google search plus a little backyard mechanic stuff.

As far as your question, yes a stuck open relay probably would cause a condition like that. Your saying the main batter cable has to be taken off for everything to shut down? Sounds more like a cross-wire in the ignition so it thinks the key is turned to the ON position.

I haven't read back to see what year your PT is but if it's a 01-05, the No#1 fuse in the PDC (Power Distribution Center - fuse box) in the engine compartment is for the ignition switch. If you pull that and everything turns off, that might indicate the problem is the ignition switch or wiring to do with that part.

You also have an ASD relay (Auto Shut down) and a starter relay in the same fuse box but don't know if they would have anything to do with your problem.
