Default Block Heater?

Hi Guys, a few questions.

I bought my first PT about 7 years ago from a local car dealer's estate, 2001 with 3000 miles, garage kept(10 car garage).

When I got it, needless to say I was fairly excited due to it being mint, and who owned it. It was an occasional dry Sunday driver,

Anyway, back to my questions.

Yesterday I replaced the 9-10 year old battery, YES, it was oem and lasted 10 years!!

I had to replace the ground wire as well.
While doing the job, I discovered a power cord under the hood neatly tie wrapped and tucked in the corner behind the battery.
The power cord has a regular 3 prong male end like a good extension cord.

Possibly a block heater cord?
Was a block heater an option in early PT's?

It looks like it has never been used whatever it is,

Sara

You are correct, mine has one also ..'01 limited. I'm not sure if it was an option or all the early ones came with it.
BTW..nice find!

Excellent!

I had no idea when we bought it, Had I, we would have been using it for sure!

If you check out our weather today, 50mph winds, snow, and wind chill around -10F to -20F.

We have a fleet of PT's, now I have to check the Touring to see if it has the block heater.

Our Fleet.

Block heater was an option on 2001's. I remember this because the only factory options I passed on when I ordered mine were the auto trans and the block heater. Living in Wisconsin, the heater would have been a good idea and it was only like $35. I installed a pan heater and a battery heater a couple years ago.

I have only had my PT since this Oct & I haven't used the block heater..yet! I have a block heater in my '01 Caravan that I have never needed; It was -28C last wk one day and the PT fired up instantly. Today again was very cold.. -24C with 60 kph winds...same thing, just fired right up. I find if I turn the key to on..wait 1~2 sec then all the way to start it gives the fuel pump a sec to build pressure and it always works..for me anyway. In fact the van has been sitting since I got the PT, nearly 2.5 mo...I haven't even looked at it, yesterday we went to cut down our Christmas tree..an annual event and we needed the van..it fired up like I drove it the day before!
This winter they say will be one of the coldest and worst here for snow in several years...guess I will find out if I need to start using the block heater or not
BTW, I have used full synthetic oil in the van for the last 6 yrs..I just had a change in the PT, when it's due again it's getting the synthetic as well...maybe sooner if the weather is as cold as they predict.
Nice fleet Sarasmiles!

Well, honestly,

I was surprised to see the block heater in there, but it stands to reason considering it was previously owned by a dealer/collectors estate.

The ONLY reason we were even in there was to change the 10 year old battery which would still start the car anything above 15F.
Had It been plugged in likely I would still be using they original battery!

BTW, this morning it was -5F and started instantly no heater plugged in with new battery.
