Default Belt noise

Okay i have a 2002 pt cruiser limited edition 2.4 auto.

I purchased this car and then over the next few months started working the bugs out of it. So i noticed the p/s belt was riding half on the pulley and half off of it. So i replaced the belt to see if this would get rid of the hesitation taking off and while just rolling(0-5mph). One installed correctly the belt made its way half off the pulley again. So i left it alone. A few days later the belt just started making a whining/birdy chirping noise the hole time. As you start and as you drive. The faster u go the noise speeds up. So i thought maybe it was the tensioner. So i installed a new tensioner yesterday. Turned car on. Noise was still there. Sprayed belt conditioner on the belt. Noise went away for a few minutes then returned. Im stumped... I checked the p/s pulley it wobbles. So im assuming the p/s shaft/bearing is shot causing that which im assuming is causing the belt to jump half on and half off the pulley. I dont know what else to do? Im very car inclined so i can do the work. Just a matter of figuring it out.. Is there a way to bypass the p/s and just run the a/c. Does ne one have a belt part number and can i run it with the tensioner or without(crank to a/c compressor). Ne ideas to this problem? Very frustrating..

I guess you can bypass the power steering pulley but you gotta have the tensioner as it's the only way to keep tension on the belt. The PT drives like a tank though without the power steering. Ask me how I know. If you do bypass the PS pulley, you have to hit an miss on finding a belt that would work. You'll have a little play on the size as the tensioner will give you a little room to play with.

You mean it's driving heavy, or it's driving superb?

I did not know it was possible to drive the car when powersteering fails.
When parking, won't you bend (or cause damage to) the steering column or something?

As long as your moving just a small bit, the steering can be turned without something breaking. It's when you at a complete standstill that a lot more pressure is exerted on the steering parts.
