Default Rough Idle-Replacing the IAC Idle Air Controller

Following Crewzin's advice I first cleaned and then replaced this part to fix a rough idle and it seems to have helped a lot.

Here's pictures of it off for anyone else who wants to try.

Location on a fancier Cruiser....

What it looked like removed on mine:

You need a Torx 25 to remove it. I think a little stubby screwdriver might work but this is what I used and it was a PITA.

Hopefully that was the problem. I take it cleaning didn't work and you just replaced it? Looks like my OEM part was black plastic and yours is silver metal. Did you use a Chrysler part?

Cleaning seemed to help some but it was still low idling every now and then. I also put a new battery in so that might have helped some too.

Took it for spin and it seems to run smooth and strong now.

I had a coupon at Advance Auto Parts so I decided for $20 I would just give them a try. It's a BMD. Both before and after were metal, looked like cast aluminum to me.

I hate my dealer in town, and I looked but couldn't find a dealer selling parts online. Do you know a good place?

Thanks for the great forum.

Sorry no, not for the general public. The husband and wife team around here own and operate the Chrysler, Chevrolet and Nissan dealers. They also sponsor a lot of the car clubs in the area including the MOPAR club (my PT) and the Corvette club (my Vette). They give anyone in any of the clubs dealer labor prices at $50 and hour and all parts at dealer prices plus 10%.

A lot of the auto stores in the area including Auto Zone, Advance Auto and NAPA also gives the clubs 10% off parts.

I appreciate the pics. They were a help to make sure I was prying off the right part. The tight fit of the o-ring gaskets were making me nervous.

Put a little lube on the "O" rings and it should push right in

Thank you. Ok that worked it's way in nicely with a little lube. But I am still getting a rough idle and only when the ac is on

Make sure your hi speed condensing fan is running to cool the freon or hi pressure in the AC system will cause the compressor to work harder and possibly cause some shaking
You cannot change it but what does it idle with and without the AC on?
AC system could be over charged too.
