Smile parking brake

hi,
Has anyone had problems with their parking break light, and can suggest a fix
2001-2002 limited 2L
when the car is parked and the hand break is applied there is no light on the dashboard but randomly when driving i get the chime and then the warning light will appear for no reason????
The brakes are not on at this time as i very gently applied the parking break and they slowed the car down so it is not as if they are sticking on
help.

thanks

Default Re: parking brake

Welcome to the forums.
your problem, I believe, has nothing to do with parking brake, but with normal wear.
The ding and brake light come on when you accelerate, right?
There is a sensor for fluid level in the master cylinder. As pads and rotors wear, the pistons in the calipers extend further, and the fluid level in the master cylinder drops a bit. Now, when you accelerate, the fluid rushes to rear of master cylinder and exposes the low fluid sensor - giving the chime and light. When the fluid sloshes back, light goes out.

plan on having your brakes done in the near (but not immediate) future. The light and chime will come on more and more frequently.
You can add a bit of brake fluid, but don't add much, because when you do get new brakes the pistons in the calipers will get pushed all the way back and that could overflow the master cylinder if you added too much.
