Default Oil Burning

Hello

Last weeken I change my oil and I have put about 150 miles on it. I cleaned the pcv valve in mineral spirit because it was a little sticky. I usually only use about a half quart between oil changes, which is not a big deal. But now I have burned about a quart an a half in 150 miles. Could this problem be the PCV valve?

Thank you
Chad

Chad.

If you've cleaned it and it rattles when you shake it, the PCV valve should be good and even if it wasn't working, I don't think you'd use that much oil. 1 1/2 quarts in 150 miles is extremely excessive. Your either burning it or loosing it. Take a good look around and under the engine for leaks and see if it's blowing out the exhaust at idle.

Zero in on the filter and drain plug. Sometimes the old O-ring sticks to the engine, and that guarantees a leak, and the drain plug can get stripped.

The PCV valve cost nothing and I have seen them cause oil leaks so why not just change it.

Follow the hose from the bottom of the air box over to the valve cover, it should be at that end. Most auto stores will carry them, if the valve ball still rattles it still is good.
