Engine light came on today with a p0301 error code...says its a cylinder 1 misfire detected...does that mean plug,wire,both?...thanks

We can't answer that question because the code only points in a general direction. It COULD be the plug or wire or vacuum leak or head gasket or burnt valve or......
Easiest thing to do is take both the plug and wire from cylinder #1 and swap them with cylinder #3. Clear the code by taking off the negative battery cable off for 5 minutes. Put everything back together and see if the code comes back as P0303 (misfire in cylinder #3). If it does, it narrows down the fault as either the plug or wire that you just put in #3. If it's been awhile since you changes plugs & wires, might as well do a tune up and put in everything new.
