Default Please help.. :(

I have a 2006 PT Cruiser that I've had almosty a year, has 35,560 miles. Tonight I got some gas and came home and when I turned off my engine I noticed a fan (cooling fan/radiator fan??) running. After a few minutes I checked on my car and the fan was still running. I turned on my engine and turned it off and the fan still ran. After about a half an hour, the fan was still running and I went to turn my engine on and the engine wouldn't start..it just putters but everything else came on as if the car was fine. It's been almost an hour and a half and the fan is still running, not as loud as it was and now the engine won't start and I also noticed that when I lock my car and the car beeps the sounds are distorted and the lights are a little dimmer as if the battery is dying. I don't really know a lot about cars and I am really scared and worried about my car...can anyone tell me what might be wrong with my car? It was working fine before now and when I got my oil changed a couple of weeks ago I was told my fluids were fine...I don't know what happened.

Thanks for any help..

ok well im guessing this is a REAL request for help????

the fan relay went bad and the fan is stuck in the "ON" position it is draining your battery which is why #1 it wont crank and #2 everything sounds distorted pretty soon ( are already) nothing will happen and the fan will be off

you need to charge the battery unhook the fan relay and replace it you can pull the fuse as well what ever it takes to stop the fan now remember with out the fan if you are in warm weather the car willl overheat so you will need to fix the problem

Next to nothing, I'd guess. Owner's manual will show you where it's located, if not the top of the plastic
fusebox under the hood.
Depending on where you live, you might not need the fan this time of year, just turn up the heater
if the engine gets warm, and don't use AC or defrost unless the vehicle's over 15MPH

My grandfather took my car to a place and they said its either the relay or the fan housing...if its the fan housing I am looking at 800 dollars to get that fixed.. Has anyone else had a problem like this and know for sure it's the relay?

Almost everyone has had a problem with the fan, just not the same as yours in fact I've never heard of the fan that keeps running. Usually the fan stops running and causes overheating. Chances are it's the relay and since you have an 06, it's the NO#15 cavity in the black box or what Chrysler calls the TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module). It's located underneath the air filter.

I take it your Grandfather went to a dealer because they are usually the only ones that charge that much for that particular part plus labor. You can pick up the part for under $100 on eBay and put it in, in about 2 hours.

Try the relay first, it's your most obvious point of failure for your particular problem.

Do this:
1. Unlock car.
2. Open glove compartment.
3. Read owner's manual.
4. Open hood.
5. Locate Power Distribution Center (PDC).
6. Open PDC cover.
7. Remove high speed fan relay.
8. Remove horn relay.
9. Put High speed fan relay in horn slot.
A. If horn sounds=Bad relay.
B. If no horn sound:
Go to Napa/Dealer/autozone and buy:

Dealer:
Quote:
5269988AA $15.75
Electrical - Electrical components - Relay - Multi purpose
Multi purpose 2001 - 2010
OR

Local Parts shop:
Quote:
STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part # RY116
Low Speed $6.88
and replace the low-speed relay.

10. Let us know!!!!

UptownSport,

That might work if he had a 2001-2005 PT. In 2006 Chrysler changed the black box from a PDC to the TIPM and there's no horn relay listed and just one relay for the fan (cavity #15).

Took the part numbers from an 07 FPM:
They call it both PDC and Totally integrated whatever.
Am I looking up a euro model somehow???

Or is the FPM wrong again?

Sure doesn't look like the TIPM that Hooligan gave me of his 2008 PT ...

It looks a little bit like the 01-05 PDC ...but different.

Maybe there's 3 kinds of "fuse/relay" boxes ???
