Thanks azptcruiser, you did a great job making the cover. BTW, since I don't happen to have a rapid prototype machine around the house I have the same questions as Herschel.

Thanks to everyone for their input. 3Bar, thanks for your input. You again provide some good solid information that is more than "it just makes it sound good." I now need to perform some analysis (the engineer in me) to really see if there is value in spending the bucks. It sounds like there may not be value. I will have to make up my own mind up on that one.
AZ

I am doing the same thing. I have just received my K&N filer and will install it sometime today. I also ordered an Airraid CAI, to do some comparitive analysis with. I do a weeks worth of testing on each and post the results. Also, if you take a look at the Skunkworks PT Cruiser it retains the Stock airbox in addition to a filer on the top of the box. Maybe those POV guys know something that we don't.

To those that asked about the coin cover, I am refining the process now and making some changes that I believe would be some good enhancements. Will let those that are interested see the next iteration after the first of the year. Also will see about putting together a price for those that might be interested.

Having spent the majority of my 56yrs as a total car nut and a good percentage of that time employed in various tech industries, I log ago lost faith in the seat of the pants dyno.

I used a G-Tech unit to establish solid baseline numbers on my ’02 PT and repeated the test series after each new modification. My performance gains are real and provable.

The substitution of the Volant Cold air package gave me a 10.5hp increase and the addition of a Monza CAT-back exhaust system added another 5. The increase in drivability was even more significant. The engine now responds instantly to the throttle and revs quickly to 4000 when it really comes on strong and keeps making power until 5500 where the stock cams quit making power. The power surge at 4000 can best be likened to the secondaries opening on a four-barrel carb.

The increase in drivability and bonus of increased mileage make the modifications well with the expense.

Don’t get me wrong, the PT will never be a true performance car, but mine is now as much fun to drive as it is to look at.

My Cruiser is funny. It sounded fine before I did anything to it. I bought a K&N drop in filter one night when out to change it and it was mis marked and the wrong size so put back in old filter and drove up the street. My PT after taking out and puttin back in filter now has a low groan at higher acceleration, more than 1/2 to 3/4 pedal down. And after the K&N drop in is now in the PT has a little better acceleration and is good at cruising but still has low groan. The groan sounds as if I have a Cherry Bomb type effect on the muffler. Could I have gotten some dirt in the intake area or something.[:I] Looking for some help.

wheelguner - 10.5hp increase is incredible, you must have been smiling after that one.

KingKole02 - can't offer much help there, perhaps check the seating of the air box or piping?
