At lighter loads the fan would be useless since the air is not needed.
At heavier loads the fan would restrict airflow. Keep reading the performance and turbo forums, many of us here are hashing out how intakes work, why, and how to make it better suited to our needs. It's fun figuring this stuff out. |

"I added a K&N drop-in and removed the white collar silencer and masked the snorkel holes with electrical tape."
Read lots about removing baffles / silencers from stock setup...can someone help this newbie understand what the advantage(s) are and what specifically you are removing of the white baffle in the top lid? The entire white baffle or just the collar around it? If just the collar, why tape the snorkel holes, wouldn't you want more air being drawn in using those holes? Why do they call them "silencers"?I've added the K&N drop in and did notice more responsiveness. Thanks for the help

I took the whole white collar out, for it appeared very restrictive. I still have it; I'll get a pic of it one of these days.
The electrical tape is around the snorkel. Remove the snorkel, then remove the clam shell around it and you will see the holes that baffle. I covered those. After my Gtech arrives and when the temps around here stay constant, I will remove the snorkel completely to see if I notice any difference; I think it may restrict airflow since it juts into the airbox pretty far. |

Yes I finally figured it out. I also found out that the dealer, on my regular service checkup, didn't even check my filter. I drove down the street two blocks into a parking lot. Open the hood and intake box to see if, by chance they "baroed" my filter. It turns out that I didn't have those four clips on the back of the, lower box, weren't in the hole in the top part.
However, now, its seems after fixing the problem the PT dosen't have as much getty as before. Result is that I will have to get a aftermarket intake and do it myself, for better preformance.
