Default Serpentine Belt Question.

Hey there, kind of a newbie question here.

I have a 2001 PT Limited Edition 2.4 16valve.

I know the car has a serpentine belt, but does it also have a regular V belt?

Just wanted to order the parts before i take the covers off to do the belt change.

thanks

The 2.4 liter PT has a serpentine belt and an alternator belt. There's also a timing belt if you want to count all the belts but that's a 5 to 7 hour job on it's own.

Tony, the Hayne's manual has a very good description (including pics) on how to change and/or adjust the belts on your PT. You might spend the few bucks it costs before you start wrenching.

also tony while you are changing the serpentine belt you may want to replace the belt tensioner that way you don't have to worry about it down the road

Brand new member here- and NOT car savvy!! My daughter and I both have 2009 PT cruisers but her serpentine belt has broken twice! A friend who works in a car parts store and seems very familiar with cars has changed it for her both times -- any suggestions I should pass along before he attempts a 3rd belt? Both of the new belts did squeal- so my husband is thinking the size might be wrong- but the friend assures us he used the size recommended by the manufacturer. Any help would be appreciated!!!

There are two belts. One has a tensioner and the other is manully ajusted. If its the one with the tensioner then that is the likly suspect. Parts jockys don't always know as much as you would think. You could even have something going bad that is being turned by that belt. If he hasn't considered why this is happening then he dosen't know a great deal about cars. But don't say I said so.

If your breaking belts, you have another problem going on, maybe somethings rubbing somewhere...might be best to put it in the shop.
