Default Oil Pan Replacement - OEM?

I have a stripped out oil drain plug and want to swap out the oil pan with a new one (for 2001 PT - 2.4L).

Trouble is... no one sells them online (Advance Auto, Autozone, RockAuto...). They list transmission pans but not oil pans.

Is this a part that is only available from Chrysler? Anyone been there... done that?

Thanks.

PT had a 'special' pan compared to other 2.4's, IIRC.

There's a multitude of things you can do to repair the thread.
Replacing the entire pan is needless, wasteful, and prolly won't be fun.

Here's some:
QWIK VALVE: ENGINE OIL DRAIN VALVE MADE BY FUMOTO: THE BEST WAY TO CHANGE THE OIL QUICKLY AND EASILY!

Drill & Tap to an oversize; off a ford, Studebaker, anything

Use the rubber plug cheapie (It'll get the car going temporarily)

Go to the 'Help' section at your local auto machine shop, they have carded
problem solvers specifically for the engine

If I were you I would go to the nearest Chrysler dealer or like "uptown" said a GOOd local car parts store and get one of the speacial "over-sized", self tapping drainplugs that are made specifically to fix this problem. They both sell a bunch of them because this comes up somewhere practically everyday. Myself, I would go to the dealer, but that's just me. You're far from being the only one that has ever done this, and you won't be the last.

Uptown, thank you for that link, I've been looking for that valve for a while. I've not had a problem with my drain plug yet, but it's an obvious problem on many PT's, and this looks like one of those "why didn't I think of that" items.

Like they said in that video, I gotta have that!

Just had a great mental image of a way to play with the grease monkey at a Yiffy Loob. Drill and tap the drain out for, say, an 18 mm spark plug thread. Then use an old spark plug for the plug. Hook up an old spark plug wire to the plug and route the wire into the bowels of the engine compartment, and terminate it in some inconspicuous and harmless spot.

I had a really weird day at work. Conference calls with three (yes three) attorneys at once, so I am in a strange mood. Sorry, I'll stop now.

Excuse me...just want to ask if Chrysler also offer recalls for interior parts. Been looking for the one specially fitted for PT but guess it's not the appropriate one.
