Default 2002 Cruiser OBDII Problem

I have a strange one. I took the Cruiser in for it's annual inspection and when it got to the part where the inspection machine requests date from OBDII it barfs and displays:

"The OBD Connection cannot be confirmed or data cannot be captured".

It did this on multiple attempts at two different inspection stations. I can hook up my scanner and look at stuff, I forced a code by pulling the cable to the MAP sensor, pulled the code with my scanner, reset the code, etc. but the inspection computer can't appear to communicate.

Anybody ever run up against something like this?

Thanks...

Was he still able to use a scanner normally on the port! I can still watch sensors, pull and clear codes, etc...

If I remember right, yes. It'd work at AutoZone, but not at inspection station.
I forget resolution - but it was a single pin, I believe.

It will in all likelyhood be a bent or broken pin. You'll now have to get on your back in the drivers side footwell with a magnifying glass and find it. Still, it's strange it would work with one and not the other.

Thanks, I'll take a look under there next week. It would be great if it turned out to be something as simple as a pushed pin!

I finally got around to pulling out the datalink connector and sure enough there was a "pushed pin". Dang made in Mexico crap, anyway!!! I pushed home all of the pins and it passed the OBDII test with flying colors...

Thanks for the help.

Glad to hear that you got it all working. I will have to check both .... I can't read my 01 or 06 with my Actron reader that works just fine on my other Made in Mexico car ..... the Beetle. I did not try my VW one on the PT. The one that Advance Auto Parts had a two different stores worked fine and was the same one that Autozone had also ..... but none of these stores sold that model anymore. I purchaced the best new Actron under $200 at one of these stores and it would not work either. I returned and bought a 1/2 price clearance one at Sears for $25 .... works great to read the 06, have not had to try the 01, but that one works with the keyflip and I can't get my 06 to do that either.

Eh, don't go so hard on Mexico. The cars are assembled there. Design is the art of having the part only go in one way so it can't be mis-assembled. And I would bet many of the sub assemblies are made elsewhere, shipped to Mexico and then assembled.

Like many of you, I too have owned cars that have been "made in America" and had a few issues with them.

I only own 1 vehicle not Made in America ..... Mexico is in the America's Right?

You are right though ... every time I look at a peice of engineering that had failed in some way .... I wonder what they were thinking. And I am not an engineer.
