Default Timing belt question

Hello all. New here to the forums and anxious to learn things about my newly acquired PT.
I recently got a 2002 PT (w/ wood grain trim) that the timing belt has broke. I see on here alot of people talking about Non interface engine? How can i tell if i have one?
Thanks in advance.

yours is not an interference engine. from what i read, none of ours are interference engines. put the new timing belt on it and start it up and enjoy

Welcome to the forum. There are a lot of great people and great info on here.As far as the timing belt goes, you do have a non interferance engine so it SHOULD be a case of replacing the timing belt and related parts and you're ready to ride.I would also recommend replacing the water pump while you are in there.

Thumbs up Re: Timing belt question

welcome from virginia, and you can get all the related parts for your cruiser from RockAuto Auto Parts there prices are very good.
one more thing, if the belt tensioner, and serptine belt, and alternator belt ,have not been ,you may want to look at replacing those either now or down the road,

did the belt break under a load or were you running some high RPM's if so you might want to do a com[pression check to make sure you didnt bend you vavlues while the piston cant hit them they can hit each other it is not usally the case but it can happen

hey guy's , I am new to the forum and unfortunatly not good with fixing cars. Today, my timing belt went (I think),I heard what sounded like a slapping sound. No idiot lights went on just lost the power steering. That's it, nothing else. Does that sound like the timing belt?
