You may make it to 105000, but there is no gurantee. If it fails before next winter, you will be stranded wherever it fails and most likely you will have to be towed. That in itself adds a good bit of cash to the already pricey repair.

From reading on here, the PT is very consistant with having the timing belt go at or very close to 100000 miles. Some get more than that and some get less. I had mine done at 87000 when it was in the shop for something else, just to get it out of the way.
If the car is driven easily and has always been driven this way. You may be able to make it to 100000 or a little past. Ultimately it comes down to when one can afford to have the work done.

Belt doesn't care whether rest of vehicle's been abused or not.
It does the same thing whether cruising at part throttle or under max load-
I do suppose there's someone who's used their PT to ford their goats across
a stream everyday, so no absolutes

If you're planning to keep the car, I'd change it sooner rather than later.

I own a 2003 Limited Edition PT and the Owner's Manual says to replace the timing belt at 90,000 miles--not 105,000. That's a 15,000 mile difference. If it was a Honda, you could go 40,000 miles past the required mileage and maybe not worry too much. But PT's (from what I've read on here) are not so forgiving. I'm going to do mine at 95,000. That's halfway between what my manual says and what many posters say in this forum.

Just read the '01 today- 120K miles!

I'd stick with 100K or sooner though

Mine's just been changed at the same time as a head gasket fix. 82k miles. I had a look at the old belt and you could see the outline of the teeth from the back of the belt. The company that I get parts from recommends relacement at 90k miles, which judging from the wear on the belt seems about right.
