Unhappy tranny problems?

I have a 2002 limited with about 70k miles. On many occasions, once the car is warmed up, and while coasting down between 25-20 mph, there is a clanking sound on the front end and jerking feel on the steering wheel and feels like you suddenly step on brakes hard, then it stops and goes away. It only happens between 25 and 20 mph.
I did try to put the car in neutral between 20-25 mph, and it does not happen. So, I am assuming it has something to do with the tranny. I would appreciate if anyone can let me know what is going on.

I just had new front bearings and front disc rotors replaced recently and new trans fluid and filter installed about 10k miles ago.

I don't have any codes, so its a mystery to me.

Please help.

Thanks,

Arnel

The transmsion is down shifting as you have removed the pressure imputus to keep the transmission in higher gear by coasting.

Our particular transmission is a bit more agressive on the down shift than some and yest it does seem like a rather horrible noise. Do believe that you will find that the issue is coasting and down shifting.

I am sure you will get many more comments on this issue and it will be good to here other imputs on this concern.

Keep us informed.

Try TCM (transmission control module) reflash at dealer. Should only be 30 min labor cost. There is a TSB from 2003 out on this issue.

Thanks for the inputs. Will visit the dealer this week and see what they say and suggest TCM reflash.
Will keep you posted!

I hope when you had the fluid changed, they used ATF + 4 - it does matter.
