Question Occasional light flicker - bad ground?

On my 2007 PT the headlights will occasionally flicker - maybe once a day. I though it was just the road/weather/my eyes but it happens enough to make me wonder.

Also, the car seems to run a bit rougher than it should. Plugs and wired are replaced with good ones, air cleaner is fine, etc.

I suspect there may be a grounding issue. Does this sound reasonable? Does the PT have any issues with ground straps breaking or coming loose? Should I add some grounds between the battery, chassis and block?

Ever since they (as in, da idiots) went to Can buss, there are all kinds of grounding issues. It is quite likely you have one. Me, I'm constantly chasing bad grounds.

Had the crazy flicker, too. Took the alternator apart- Looked great!

Doesn't seem bad, now.

If you've seen my other threads here, you'll probably already know what was causing my lights to flicker. I've figured out what it was.

I had a bad radiator fan. When it came on, it would draw a LOT of power and make the lights flicker. The fan finally it died and would only throw sparks and smoke, blowing a 50amp fuse in the process.

I've replaced the fan with a unit from AutoPartsWay here in Canada and everything seems fine now.

One item I do have to mention about the replacement... It had no holes to mount the wiring harness that leads from the plug to the relays. It was easy enough to add them, but definitely not expected.

Thumbs up Re: Occasional light flicker - bad ground?

My lights on my 06 would flicker also, till I read in a thread here to pull one of the fuses see if it was corroded. it was, I cleaned it and pulled the rest of them, and my lights don't flicker anymore. I don't remember which fuse it was but I think it was the ASD fuse that shuts the cruiser off in case of a bad accident.

I had the same problem. During some spring cleaning of the car and engine bay I noticed that the connector and the terminals on my battery were corroded as hell. Some baking soda and water and now they are looking like new and my flicker went away.

I wonder if the fuses need some protection like,

NO-OX-ID-A Brush Can (8 oz.)

The Navy uses the no-ox in ship yards.

di-electric grease

Simple grease on battery connections, corrosion is the battery off-gassing
acid, it's either going bad or is being overcharged.
