Unhappy Argh! Check engine light!

*sigh*

Started my '07 Cruiser today, jumped out and cleared the snow off of her. There was a weird kinda burning smell so I looked under the hood. Don't see anything wrong. No odd noises. I figure that it's one of the other cars around me. Smells like a dragging e-brake. I jumped in... no oddball lights on the dash, running fine. So I head out...

20 minutes later I stop at the store. All is still fine. Get back in the car and start it up. Everything is still fine, except now the check engine light is on. I shut the car down and try to pull some codes. All I get is "-done-". Car is running fine, no smells, fluids are all at their normal levels and all the belts are moving, so I drove home.

At this point the light is still on and I don't see any issues. Chrysler dealer is at least an hour away.

...anyhow, does anyone have any idea where to start with this?

[edit] I should mention that the temps here are -23'C, -37'C with windchill (-9'F and -34'F) but I've never had problems in the cold before.

No leaks?

Disconnect the negative terminal on your battery for a bit then plug it back in to reset your engine light. If your light comes on again, hopefully you'll get a code telling you what the problem is (if any).

Nope... no gas. Just drove from my work parking lot to the pet store for gecko food... Maybe my car is just afraid of crickets!

Now that the car is cold I'll poke around a bit more under the hood. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't -29'C right now - I've got no garage.

I'm just glad I hadn't started messing around with my ground straps or installing my radio yet or I'd really be barking up the wrong tree.

I should have mentioned in my first post... This is an automatic, base model with 45,000km (28,000miles) on it.

Thumbs up Re: Argh! Check engine light!

...so, a thorough check did not find any issues, so I disconnected the battery for a while. Hooked it all back up and no more check engine light. Drover her around the last few days and no problems.

At this point I don't know what happened, and I'm glad that it seems to have resolved itself.

Thanks guys!

Unhappy Re: Argh! Check engine light!

I knew it was too good to be true.

Got the check engine light back today. At least I got some codes this time...

P0481 - Cooling fan #2 circuit.
P0522 - Oil pressure sender. The sender is messed up. First time I got a code for it though.

I *hope* it's not going to be a pain to fix this... *sigh*

Default Another update...

50 amp radiator fan fuse is blown... That would account for the error code.

Now, to get another fuse and hope it doesn't blow.

Smile Followup

I replaced the 50 amp fuse and it hasn't blown again, BUT I finally figured out that I had a bad radiator fan. When it came on, it would draw a LOT of power and eventually blew the fuse. Well, the fan finally it died and would only throw sparks and smoke.

I've replaced the fan with a unit from AutoPartsWay here in Canada and everything seems fine now.

One item I do have to mention about the replacement... It had no holes to mount the wiring harness that leads from the plug to the relays. It was easy enough to add them with a 1/4" drill bit, but definitely not expected.
