Default HELP: Another Engine Warning Light query?

Hi there...think this maybe my first serious posting since joined site but need some advice PLEASE?

Have a late '07' mdl black PT Cruiser Limited Auto gearbox 2.4ltr engine here in UK, had it since Sept last year and its mileage is approx 16k miles.

Yesterday was driving up to Sheffield on motorway (freeway) at approx 80mph. After had been driving for approx 30mins when heard what can only describe as "loud pop from drivers side rear of vehicle as if run over huge plastic bottle?" - thought had blown tyre to be honest, so stopped and checked but all appeared ok.

Then about 20 miles later, the dreaded engine warning light became lit up and (having had bad experience with previously owned Dodge Nitro) I pulled up safely but as did suffered a temporary loss of power. Again checked car all appeared in order so decided try get my destination approx 2 miles away.

Arrived and waited 30 mins, engine warning light still lit up and wasn't aware of the code check system, but car running ok again and needed complete journey and get home.

Later in day approx 2hrs after first incident, re-started car after stop and lit no longer displayed. Today read help pages and checked for codes : DONE displayed nothing else and car appears running fine again?

Did have slight issue getting locking petrol cap to unlock to fill up with extremely expensive petrol (gas) later in day but other than that no problems.

Was intending to get it checked out by local main dealer Franchise, who are frankly useless at best having still not returned my call for advice 24hrs later!

So can anyone offer any practical advice as am not very mechanically minded.

Many thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum.

Just have to guess but it could have been a back-fire, maybe some bad gas. I don't know why you didn't have a fault code as the computer or some sensor apparently saw something to turn the light on.

Remember, I said it was a guess. Any kind of noise is hard to diagnose on the Internet.
