Welcome to the noisy lifter club. They are covered under the warranty. I've had mine replace and some others here have also.

I have that ticking sound also, Chrysler mechanic looked at me a bit funny last time I was in, think he was waiting to see if I brought it up.

I did think it was just the nature of the beast but now I think I'll take it in again after the holidays.

Macster, no problem with the dealer replacing or fixing those lifters? how long did it take to get it done?

About a day, I told them that my lifters were tapping when the car was cold, they didn't hesistate, they replaced em.

Uhhh...ermmmm....Unless I am missing something, this DOHC engine does not have lifters, but it does have rockers and lash adjusters. (I suppose the lash ajuster can be coined "lifter" since it, well, lifts, heh)

I have the same tapping noise, and I started thinking the same thing (these things are new to me; I know Harley engines and a little of old V8's)

So, I am now looking at the Service Manual and the cams are smack on top of the valve stems, which begs the question: WTF is that noise!?!

I, too, noticed that it usually occurs at idle when the case is cold. The tapping increases in frequency with RPM revving still and under load. It did not do it the first 800 miles or so, and it does not do it at operating temperature.

I do not know which scares me more: the tapping, or unleashing a dealer monkey on it.

macster: can you find out what they did precisely? I would like to go to the dealer armed. (with information, heh)

Hmm...since it may be cracked open, anyone have any suggestions for perfomance cams?

My ticket

Customer says that there is a tapping noise from the top of the exhaust manifold about 2 min after warm up like lifter noise.
Ck&advise
Test and inspect engine for noise. Replaced all lifters and test after repair.

16 4777976AA tappet VA 9041004
1 4781639 AB gasket VA 9001004
blah blah

Can scan the invoice if you want.

hehe, that will work...thanks for the info!

I found another thread (I posted it above) and got a little more education on it. You hit it, "lifter" = p/o lash adjuster.

Cool...now I can this fixed; it was buggin' the s*** outta me!

I had a somewhat similar noise in the engine of my 2003 GT but it was not an "easy fix"! The saga of the "mysterious engine noise" can be found at the following thread: http://www.ptcruiserlinks.com/forum/...?TOPIC_ID=3426
