Default need for speed

so i was driving one night and a friend pulled beside me in a base model cavilier. no mods what so ever. and we raced a back road and he kicked my pts butt. felt like crap but what mods can i do to increase hp?? i have to get under the hood this week to do oil. im thinking all oil needs done so trans, differential, and engine all use full synethetic oil to help. i also have to change a gasket on my valve covers so what can i do in the engine it self to do any hp adds??? please help so i can keep the pt name representin!

The PT name if fine, it's your feeling of what the PT is and stands for that's screwed up.

You want speed, how much money do you have? Speed costs and if you want to beat that cavilier, just a guess, how about $1K maybe 2K. There's nothing you can throw on in a weekend of underhood maintenance that's going to give you that feeling of power that your looking for. Best bet, trade it in and find yourself a used PT GT. That cavilier won't know what hit him. When you do, find yourself a deserted track or sanctioned drag strip. Your "back road" is no place to race.

bhunt41, already replied to your PM a few weeks back and the same information applies:

Quote:
Only things you can do to an N/A short of forced induction are the following:

Spark plugs & wires (most important-- OEM ones are BAD)
Intake (cold air, or short ram)
Exhaust (upgrade to a full 2.5" system)

I suppose you could spray nitrous, but that's risky if you don't know what you're doing. I wouldn't go any higher than a 50-shot on this motor, and if you have an automatic, it's almost completely out of the question.
You lost to the Cavalier as a result of weight.

I agree almost totally .... and even more it ain't no place for making dinner reservations, booty calls, answering email, shaving, putting on makeup, eyeliner, etc!

I get away from those folks quickly .... but they think I am racing when I am not the only one that feels that way about their bad habits on that peice of road at the same time.

Love it, love it, love it! I've worked for Ericsson for 27 years building cellular telephone systems for the likes of ATT, T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint, etc., and have always HATED watching people try to manipulate their phones while driving!

All that other crap just makes being on the road that much more dangerous.

Nice note SS, thanks for posting this!

Thanks ... And i have phones on 2 of those networks in the car with me almost all the time. When driving on the public roads the work one stays on my hip no matter how much shaking and noise it makes and the personals stay in the console or glovebox where I can't hear them while driving.
