Question Yet another Spark plig question.

I have a 2004 PT L.E. Turbo with 29k miles. I changed to a high performance set of wires when the originals went bad. Today I went to change the plugs. The guy at Auto Zoo sold me a set of Autolite AP5263's. I gapped them myself at .040. Car ran like crap. I checked the gap on the old Champions and it was .065! It runs better with the old plugs than the new ones! What's going on and what plugs should I be using?

Don't run plats with a turbo!!! Not sure why your's ran like crap, are you sure you got them connected up properly? I just put new plugs in today and runs like a scalded ape! I forgot how well she runs.

Agreed, no platinum plugs in a turbo. I use the stock Copper Plus in my '04 GT and my '05 SRT-4. They both run extremely well, especially the GT with over 150k. Gap them at .040.

Well... I'm ruining iridium gaped at .047, just to not make a huge jump to .040 because when I removed the originals where gaped at .062, .066, .060 and .062 LOL I was wondering WHY IN THE HELL DID MY PT USE TO KNOCK? hahahaha well there's my answer, and I'm running the taylor 8.2 wires and damn my little Margot is running like an illegal immigrant from the border patrol LOL (and I have my passport OK?... Yeah! its a joke! I'm Mexican OK?) and fuel saving wow! I use to get exact 200 miles with a full tank now I'm getting 238 miles! with a full tank, and with Mexican fuel OK? 91 octane of course, and driving like a granny lol... I'm wondering if the trip odometer function are miles ? lol

Daniel

PS any suggestion to gap my plugs at .040? will I get more MPG?

.040-.045 will be fine on a stock turbo PT.

I'd suggest getting NGK Coppers.

If you're slightly/moderately modded, go with colder plugs and lower the gap. I'm at .032 and it runs like a champ

Yes I read on another tread that iridiums go for .032 , but Ive copied your mods ( the slight ones) I have Mobil 1 filter and oil (synthetic) Taylor 8.2 wires (hell yeah) K&N drop in filter and air box mod, and TTAB hard pipe, I'm thinking to re gap them tomorrow at .040 as I say they where all bad ! different gaps at .060's
.040 its for better MPG or only for performance? I do not have a huge mod and dont plan to do it, only the needswings down pipe and Intercooler to TB hard pipe, that will be all ( thats not a major mod right?) Im not planing to go for a stage
