Default Check Engine Light is on-again

I have a 2005 PT Cuiser with 87,000 miles on it. 1 week ago my check engine light came on and I took it to Auto Zone to have the code read. It was reading a cylinder 3 misfire, when I called my mechanic he advised me to bring it in right away, which I did. They performed a tune-up and almost immediately afterward the check engine light came on again. I took it back to my mechanic and I was told it was probably because of the fuel flush they performed and it needed time to work through, etc. They ran the code and it was showing a cylinder 2 misfire, they cleared the code at that time and today, 4 days later the check engine light came back on. I will call my mechanic on Monday but in the meantime I would like some advice on how best to handle this, am I in store for more problems and money spent? I am not a car person at all so I have no idea what to do. Thanks in advance for any advice and help!

The best way? Find a new mechanic. They did a tune-up and a fuel flush and you still have the same problem only it moved to a different cylinder. Ask him if they changed the plugs also or can you tell that by the receipt they gave you?

Since your not a car person, tell them you don't want them to throw parts or perform maintenance unless they guarantee they aren't wasting your money.have them check for a vacuum leak around the connections to the upper and lower manifolds and the seams of the upper one.

Thanks for your quick reply CREWZIN,

On my receipt I was charged for 4 spark plugs, 1 spark plug wire set and 1 intake plenum gasket. I will do what you suggested and ask them to check for a vacuum leak. Should they charge me to do this? I certainly do not want to waste any more money!

From what you said before, they will charge you but tell them they've changed you so far for work and parts that HAVEN'T cured your problem and see what they say.

Jeez, are you anywhere near North Carolina? If you're gonna throw your money away on idiots, I'd be glad to come over and work over your engine for, say, half what those dozers are charging you. Definitely find another mechanic! Or get you a boyfriend who works on cars...lol...

LMFAO!!! I am in Wisconsin, so kinda far away from you. Now another question, how do I find a decent mechanic? Because I know nothing about cars I don't want to keep getting taken advantage of. At least now I know some of the right questions to ask instead of being totally clueless.

At auto parts stores - like autoZone, AdvanceAuto, etc, ask for a good mechanic. When you hear the same name a couple of times, give them a go.
