Default Engine warning light

Hello all. I bought a 2004 limited 2 litre auto a few months ago, after wanting one for a long time.

I m very happy with the car up to now. But the other day something went wrong with it. The engine got rougher as it went up the rev range, and then the engine warning light came on.

It then put its self into the slow mode, and the lamp stayed on. After checking this forum I checked the fault code, it was a 335 CKP sensor.

The warning lamp went out the next day, but the car still seems a bit reluctant to go up the rev range.

I was wondering what you think the problem may be? Do you think it is still the sensor, and if so do you think it is worth getting it replaced even though the lamp has gone out?

Any help much apreciated

I think you should reboot the computer, get rid of the stored code and hopefully (if the sensor is good) everything should be back to normal. What you want to do is disconnect the negative cable from the battery for about 5 minutes, then hook everything back together.

If it was just an intermittent problem with the Crankshaft sensor, everything should be OK.

Crewzin, if indeed the crank sensor momentarily faultered and put the engine into limp mode, will it stay in limp mode until you d/c the battery and reset the ecu or will the ecu see that everything is now normal and return to normal drive mode?

I would think it would stay in limp mode till disconnecting the battery clears it.

Cheers for the reply cruizin, I will give that a go.

You seem to know allot about cruisers. How long have you been running one? And how many have you had?

I ve always wanted one, and am glad I ve got one. But going by my own limited experience and what I ve picked up on the internet, quite allot seems to go wrong with them. Do you think thats a fair assessment?

They do have their problems, what can I say. I've seen Cadillac's and Benz's on the side of the road also.

I've had my only PT since September 2000. Picked up most of my learning on this forum, hands on and the Internet also.
