Cool Gas Mileage: Computer versus Calculated?

I have read many posts, on several forums, about the need to calculate your mileage. Not, to just trust the computer display on the dash.

So, I had assumed that both the sticker mileage and computer display would be "generous".
When I got the new 2010 Couture and drive it from Texas to OKCity, the computer read nearly 27 mpg! Again, I assumed that was probably not close to right. (As I said the sticker mileage was listed as 20 city - 26 Hwy.

Drove from OKCity to Tulsa to play golf with the son Sunday. WEedrove around find a good place to eat. Then, I drove back to OKCity on the same tank of gas. (used a little over half a tank) No a/c; as it was in the high 60's all day. Couture is a na; and auto tranny.

When I pulled into the driveway, the computer read 26.3 mpg!
When I calculated the 227 miles, dividing by the 8.524 gal to fill back up > I got 26.6 mpg!!!
And therefore, the computer was "right on"!

To say the least, I am pleasantly suprise!
And the Couture is hardly broken in with the OEM ignition parts and only 1,700 miles on her!

Frank, I use Fuelly.com as well as pencil & paper (have kept track of MPG for years on paper) and find that they are 1-4/10's difference.

If I don't do it every time, I MAY forget to log it in our book that we keep in the glove compartment.

That's what I figured.
I am really interested in the potential for highway mileage.
As, I am wayyyyy to aggressive in local traffic to expect anything good to come of it!

I took a trip to Ohio in my 2010 a few weeks ago, about 1350 miles round trip and it averaged 26.7 mpg. That was figuring it with a calculator so it was accurate.

My base 2006 Pt doesnt calc the gas mileage but everyone seems to complain about 2.4 N/A Auto combo for gas mileage, I am averaging 25.7 the first 750 miles. Car had 4400 miles on it . High was 29 on long trip and low of 24.2 on one tank of 70/30 highway/local for my normal commute.

So I am pleased. I will convert it to synthetic oil and do the trans fluid soon.
