Default Has anyone replaced the vanity bulb in the sunvisor?

I have read in a prior posting that the bulb does come out of the socket. Has anyone actually removed it? What did you use to get in there and pull it out, without breaking it?

What is the bulb number for replacement?

thanks!

Owners Manual: Visor Vanity bulb 6501966

I haven't replaced it but just went into the garage, used a very small screwdriver and used the indents on the plastic have circle cover to take that off. Used the screwdriver again and could move the white plastic bulb holder out of the socket, but stopped there. Looks like it will come all the way out by sliding the bulb holder to the right.

thanks crewzin. I never thought the bulb number would be in the OM.

We have gotten that far with the socket, but it does want to come out. And I did read a posting that said to remove bulb and replace bulb in socket. Which makes me think the bulb comes out of that socket. I was hoping someone has actually replaced it....before I get in there and start breaking things

It did look like the socket has to come out complete with the tiny bulb. Then replace the bulb and put the whole thing back in.

Sure does look that way. But the white socket is to long to come out that opening. So I got after it with the small flat head screwdriver!

I popped the trim and pulled the socket out the front or bottom of the mirror.

I took needle nose to the bulb and it was not coming out.

So then I went to the service manual.....

Under bulb replacement, it states 'pull bulb out of socket and replace'.

Under visor vanity lamp, it states ' visor must be replaced'.

So I'm going the visor replacement route and then I'm going to take mine apart and see what is going on!

I will post my findings!

Visor must be replaced if the bulb burns out !!!!!!

That has got to be the stupidest thing I've ever heard of.

Crewzin, Do you know if 'chuck45' is still around. I would be interested in how he got the bulb out of the socket. I got the white socket out, where I could get a grip on the bulb, but that bulb was not moving. I'm wondering if he cut the white socket?

A few days ago I replaced the bulb in the "track" on off switch, what I found was a long socket, the bulb itself has long wires on it, unlike the bulbs in the dash lights. The wires that came out the bottom of the socket wrapped around the base of the socket to make contact with the switch base where the bulb mounts. Maybe the vanity light has the long wires on it? I don't know what the part # would be,but, it must be different than the others. I got this replacement bulb from the cruiser I bought for parts.

A most curious thread! I haven't any personal experience yet. My 2004 shop manual says the following which would suggest no problems. ????

VANITY LAMP
REMOVAL
(1) Lower visor.
(2) Insert a small flat bladed tool into the slot
between the lamp lens and lamp.
(3) Carefully pry lens outward.
(4) Remove bulb from socket.
INSTALLATION
(1) Position bulb in socket and push into place.
(2) Position lens on lamp and snap into place.
