Default Fog Lights hooked up wrong?

Hey just a quick question... I had the dealership I bought my 2001 PT Cruiser from fix the Fog Light switch before I bought the car a while back but figured I'd ask a question now. Instead of replacing the switch they ended up hooking the wiring for the fog lights into my head light wire so when I turn the head light on the fog lights come on.
Is this safe? I think I might of removed the wire before but just curious on if it was okay to use like that.

They cobbled it up!!! The foglamps should have been connected thru the MFS so you could turn them on & off as you wish. The dealers people really screwed the pooch on this "FIX"!!!

yah i figured they got lazy and tried to save money with this quick fix.
You think it would be safe though to put it back the way they did it?

Sure, they will work that way.
Does your MFS switch have the fog lamp symbol on it? Just wondering!!!

yah but its pointless now, do the MFS switches still sell for a $100?
I just don't want my cruiser to catch on fire due to bad wiring..

MFS was about $84 from rockauto.com I've got an 01 and I need to replace mine.

My fog lights won't turn off if there is a fuse in the slot for the fog lights. That and when it's cold the driving lights don't always work. Brights will but it seems that something has to "warm up" before the driving lights will stay on. Since the weather has changed we haven't' had the problem.

Actually it is more likely that they tried to connect them via the switch assembly, and found they didn't work. In some cases, a lucky owner adds fogs to the car and connects them up and they work. In some cases the unlucky owner connects them up and they don't because the puter is not programmed for fogs. Maybe you're not programmed for them and they 'cheated' the system?? Still, that's pretty underhanded.

As to your issue, Monitor, temperature should have nothing to do with your headlights working or not. That's a really odd one. Have you traced the wiring? Maybe you should have your ecm reflashed?

I would at least put a relay on that circuit. The headlight already draws near limit on power so adding more could melt wiring.
