Default A/C Issue -- Help!

Evening, all. I just picked up my 2006 PT Cruiser Turbo this past January and am very happy with it so far. Unfortunately, when I bought it, it was cold and snowy, so air conditioning was the last thing on my mind. That being said, when the temps hit 90 and my a/c didn't work, I was not too happy. Anyway, I brought it into a shop near where I live, and the mechanic told me I needed to replace the liquid line assembly with built in expansion valve as well as charge up the system. Total cost: $350

Two days later, I am back to blowing warm air. The a/c did work when I first picked the car up. Since it's a holiday weekend, I need to wait until Tuesday to take it back and fear that I am going to be told a line of nonsense and swindled for more cash.

Any ideas why the system worked intermittently but not anymore? What else could it be, and what should my recourse be with the mechanic?

I was really hoping someone with some knowledge would weigh in before I went back to the mechanic.

Here's the deal:

The mechanic is now telling me my compressor is bad. He said all the readings were fine on Friday, which really makes no sense to me at all. He said all the freon is still measuring properly as far as pressure goes, but I am looking at another $700 for the compressor and dryer.

He also said that when a compressor is changed, the liquid line and expansion valve is also changed, so the original repairs were necessary.

Someone please advise ASAP so I can at least have piece of mind. Does this sound correct?

Thanks for responding. What I am not understanding is how the compressor read fine a few days ago but no longer is good. Doesn't make sense to me at all.

what is your a/c doing? was it cooling when you drove and did it get hot when you where t a stop and did the car shake. i was having trouble myself with the a/c and it turned out that the fan wasn't coming on when you switched the a/c on. its a very common problem with pt's

Hello, my name is John. I have an 06 touring edition. I am having a problem that is affecting the AC on my car. When stopped at a light or sign, the engine will almost sputter to a stop and rev back to idle. I know that the upper O2 sensor needs to be replaced and suspect that is the culprit of the engine issue. The AC starts to blow cold, but will not after the sputter. Could this also be caused by the fan issue?
