Default New alternator not charging, how to check ECM? P0622

I have a 2001 PT that stop charging the battery on Wendsday on my way home from school. It threw a P0622 DTC - Generator F-Terminal Circuit.

I check the battery (optima yellow top, no sound system in this car, was from my last car) and the alternator with my charger and tester combo. The battery checks out fine and has been charged up. The alternator has no output. It was a premium reman form auto zone so I took it out today and swapped it at the store. The old one tested OK but I was not going to put the three year old reman alternator back in. Its a real pain to change the alternator in a PT.

So even with the new alternator I still do not get any output. I checked the B+ wire for continuity to the positive battery terminal with my multimeter and it checked out OK.

The manager at auto zone said that the ECM is probably bad and its a common issue with Chrysler (he did not want to replace my alternator but I convinced him I was not going to install an old alternator and do all this work again).

Before I spend the $300 for a reman ECM and $100 to program it is there anything else I can check?

I would like to know if there is a way to test the alternator field control harness that plugs into the alternator? I don't know what values to test for.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

So for an update. I replaced the battery today with a new one and I still have the same no charging issue. Same code.

Does anyone know how to test the ECM output for the voltage regulator?

I hate to buy a new computer and it not fix the issue. Thanks.

I solved the issue yesterday. It ended up being a short in the F terminal control wires. They run from the ECU to the alternator in a wire loom above the CV axle and below the exhaust. The wires rubbed on the inner CV axle boot and rubbed all the way through the loom and wire.

I soldered in a splice and sealed it heat shrink tubing. I put some plastic wire loom over the harness to provide more protection. There isn't really a place to anchor it out of the way.

I would advise you guys to look at your wire harness next time you do an oil change or service the car. I had to pull the axle back out so I could make room for the repair, believe me you don't want to have to go through this.

Wow imalittleturt, I owe you a big THANK YOU for this post on P0622!

My 2001 PT threw up a battery warning light today and I immedaitely thought I had to go for an alternator replacement. But after reading your post, I found the exact same problem you described and thus, got away with a simple (not so simple really) wire splice.

I did NOT have to pull the CV axle out (thankfully) but did end up trying to splice a wire way up in a very inaccessible space. Thanks to some crimping wire connectors and a couple of long tools, I finally got the job done.

Voila! No more warning light!

Thanks for sharing this great info!
