Default Timing Belt Tensioner

So I replaced the timing belt on my 05 pt, I replaced the water pump and gasket, pulley, tensioner and timing belt. My timing belt will not fit over the tensioner, and I read something about needing to pre-tension the tensioner? I'm trying to find information on doing this but I can't find any information at all. I have the 2nd version of the tensioner and can't figure out what to do. I installed the tensioner and have the timing belt over it, but no matter where I move the tensioner using the 1/4 inch ratchet, I can't get the timing belt to fit. Can someone help me with this?
