Default Radiator fan missing a piece?

'01, 2.4L, non turbo. Just received a new radiator fan (aftermarket - Dorman), however noticed the black plate that covers the motor itself is not there. Can this be removed from the old fan and installed onto the new one? Is this piece that important?

Argos, I have no idea. But why not pull the old fan. It's busted anyway, right? And see if you can remove the old cover and install it on your new fan. Hey, that cover may be one of the reasons our fans burn out so soon. Who knows?

Thanks, but I was mistaken. Once I removed the old fan I realized it's just the back of the motor itself. Since the two are from different manufacturers that explains the difference.
