Default Help - Timing Chain???

Help - I have a PT Cruiser 2.2CRD (2005) and have done approx 100K to date - someone has mentioned that I should have had the 'timing chain' replaced, yet although I have had PT fully serviced over the years I cannot find any reference to this. When would it be recommended to be changed? Is it a mileage thing? I don't really know what it does or what will happen if it breaks - can someone help to explain??? Thanks Louisa

Hello Louisa and welcome to the forum!

By the looks of things, you're outside the US am I right?

As for your timing chain, I think you haven't found anything because what PT Cruisers have is a timing belt. They can snap over time and are recommended for replacement (along with waterpump, tensioner, etc.) at about 105k miles. Alot of people do it before they reach 105k though, and a few unfortunate people have had theirs snap on them so they're forced to replace it anyway.

It does require a bit of labor, and roughly clocks in at 6-7hours to do (at least for the 2.4ltr version here).

Hope I helped and best of luck to ya!

-Freddy

If it's a chain then I doubt the OP would have anything to worry about then.

Chains are supposed to last the life of the car, though some people do change them out at about +250k miles.
