Dave,

The Hedman header I ordered should be here (Seattle) any day now. I ordered the 4 into 2 into 1. One of the web sites on PT Cruisers I frequent rated the Headman right up there with the JBA you're getting. Hopefully we'll both be happy with the results. I talked to a Tech Rep from Hedman and he said I should expect a 10 to 12% increase in horsepower and torque mainly in the low rpm range, right where the Cruiser needs it. I'll let you know what the results are and please let me know how yours goes.

By the way I ordered the Hedman through Honest Performance and am paying $275 plus tax. I saw the same exact header on a few of the PT web sites listing them from between $425 and $476. What a rip. Oh well as they say, "buyer beware".

Nice talking to you.

Jerry

Jerry & Kojak, (and any other Jet users)
Word I'm getting from my local speed shop is that Jet has improved their chip (or made corrections?). When, or what they did, I don't know. Has anyone heard anything more? I would like to hear some more "positive experiences" about the Jet chip from those that are not having problems. Have either one of you put yours on a dyno? And ifso, what were your results? When did you purchase yours? I got mine in January 2000 but didn't install it until March. How long it was "in stock" I don't know. You may have the "new and improved" version.
Perhaps this needs to be looked at again, if Jet has in fact made improvements. If not, then it's a "lotto", you may get the good one or maybe not.

PS: Kojak, is the "other" signature car your "work" car? <img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle>

I've got a Borla header in right now (since there's a small discussion on headers in this thread). I have to get the engine above 2500 RPMs to start moving quickly, and above 3000 RPMs to take off. I'll be getting the camshaft kit offered by Race and Street and that should take care of it...more power low end and otherwise.

Good Point 2cool..I got my chip in Nov 01. that could be a point. I didn't know about the dyno stuff untill I got into this PT cruiser associations. Wish I had known.

R.re the headers I am going to put in JBA but after I do the low end.via Bob Stockum's upgrades.I too will be putting in a set of #14 Turbo Cams and possibly a "Neon" tensioner. I am setting this up as I plan to run a "NOS" system with a bit of a difference.."hush,hush" right now until we see what it can do!!

Kojak,

Beware of using those Turbo cams. Not to be a pain but do you have a turbo on your PT. Because if you DO NOT then your wasting your money and can seriously damage your engine. Even with NOS, which you won't be using all the time. You have to make sure you use the right cam also. If you check your Intake to Exhaust lift specs. You will notice on the cam for the exhaust side of you DOHC setup is lesser then the Intake side. This is for spooling the turbo up faster, but if you do not have a turbo to spool up. The mechanics are usless and you could cause some internal problems to your engine. FYI Gman

Most of anything that I have seen about the Jet Chips are that they dont work. I have seen a setup for an Eclipse and it was nothing much at all...

1.8 hp vs 122 hp is within the dynos error range. In other words - its the same.

Other people saying the car feels faster - I would be interested to see a dyno chart to see if you are actually gaining any power or if you just have that "I spent $200 on it - it should be faster" You may think its faster because you want it to be faster....will yourself because you spent your money on it.

Personally I drag race cars decently fast cars - and there is no way I could feel 10 hp at the wheels. 50-60 hp you can notice - 10 hp at the motor is probably 7 at the wheels on the best day.

So far we have had 3 different PT Cruisers. Two autos and a stick. One auto had an exhaust , intake and single fogger 50 shot of nitrous. It was quicker than a stock one - but even that 50 hp did not feel like that much once you were moving.

My experience with Mustangs is that the generic chips work best on the shift points on automatics than they raise HP. Yes they do richen up the mixture a tad but nothing too radical. And Yes 10 HP is hard to tell by seat of the pants dynoing. Custom chips can be very usefull after all other mods are put on the motor and the chip is done in conjunction with a dyno and very skilled technician. Add on chips are generally hit and miss and depend on how good the stock setup is!!
