Default Sticky throttle?

Good day all! Hope you're all having a great summer!

I'm having a bit of a problem with the throttle on my '01 2.4L 5 speed which seems to be sticking a bit. At least I think that's what's giving me the problem...hoping someone here can help me figure this out.

What's happening is, when the car is warm and I'm shifting gears, or if I'm inching along in thick traffic (really noticeable then), when I engage the clutch and release the gas pedal, the revs take about 3 seconds to come down. It's as if I still have my foot on the gas. After about 3 seconds of having the clutch engaged and my foot off the gas, the revs comes down normally. It doesn't seem like the throttle is decelerating fast enough. Car runs great otherwise. Any ideas?

As I said earlier, my PT's an '01 2.4L 5 speed,155,000 klicks. Had a new rad, battery, water pump and timing belt done last fall. Noticed this happening occaisionally before the timing belt; not at all since, and it's reared it's head again recently. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Roxx

I would start by cleaning the throttle body. Get some throttle body cleaner from the parts store, remove the TB and spray it all out. I cleaned mine a few months ago and there was a lot of gunk built up in there and my '01 had about 75-80 thousand miles on it at the time.

Thanks for the advice rcktpwrd. I wondered if cleaning the throttle body would be a place to start. Wasn't sure if the car had a sensor or linkage set up for the throttle.

Appreciate the help. Have a good one!
