Default PT is DEAD

i havent driven my pt in about 3 or 4 days now. i went to go drive it around the block and nothing happened. not even a crank. radio and lights come on but no start. thank god i have a gauge pod and saw it reading less than 12 volts. i have it on a charger now and the gauge i think is up to 13 or 14 volts and nothing. i figured ill wait til the charger says its done charging but what do you guys think it could be seeing what im saying? i had the starter already replaced i believe about like a year or two ago. it has me to the point where i want to get rid of it or just give the car to my sister and let it sit for about 8 months til she can even get her permit and just go off and buy a mustang gt. i love the pt and think its great but i hate having so many problems!!

The issues come with age, same can be said for any car.

Put a multimeter to your alternator. Is your alternator putting out enough voltage to charge your battery? Starter wouldn't have much to do with a dead battery.

Also, sometimes people have had their light/fog switch stuck and eventually it drains their battery.

If you get a Mustang GT, I won't talk to you anymore

Too slow and not as stylish unless you get the new '11 5.0

I had a problem like that with mine a while back, had to get a new computer... Everything in the car worked normal except it wouldn't crank/start.

how much did the computer run? but for the gt statement. i think having the base model pt with auto tranny sucks. i love the pt and all but i dont like the lack of power. i went from a blazer with 278 horse power to a pt with around 150hp. im a power whore! horse power is like sex. cant have enough! (heard it in a garage). LOL.

A new computer isn't much....though it won't really be new.

A 'PCM' first of all is engine (turbo/non turbo) and transmission specific, especially years.

After getting a PCM (used, whether ebay/craigslist part-out/junkyard) you need to get it flashed to your vin for it to work.

Honestly, before you start dropping cash over a PCM and such look at the cheaper solutions.

Put a multimeter to your alternator or take your car to an autozone/kragen and they'll do a free charging test.

Start where it's easiest/cheapest and work your way from there.

If your car was sputtering, you wouldn't replace the transmission would you?

how old is the battery? It might just be shot...

As for the PCM, it cost way too much as I was out of town and the car had to be towed to a dealer. If I was home I could have done it myself for about a 1/4 of the price. I have seen them on e bay for a 2-3 hundred bucks flashed with your vin.

he told me that the battery was like a yr or 2 old but he replaced it with a bigger one. I think he said that it didn't work. I'll talk to him and let him know to get on so he can give us more info.
