I'd be concerned about low oil pressure. Low oil pressure can be caused by several different things from low oil level, clogged oil pickup tube, failing oil pump, failing engine bearings.

You really should have a mechanic put a actual oil pressure gauge on the engine to determine if the pressure is Ok. If it is, then maybe a new pressure sending unit is in order.

Of course, read your owners manual and see what it says about it. Maybe search around on the board here and see if there is a procedure for "clearing" a oil light.

The oil pressure is fine, the temp doesn't go up and there is no funny smell.
My husband pulled everything apart and it all seems fine, the light just won't go off!!

I agree with this, probably just a bad sending unit, it's a somewhat common issue...

I agree also. It's the sensor.

I have replaced the sending unit in my GT twice so far. Pep Boys has a "help" section that has a Chrysler sending unit deep socket that works great to remove, and install the oil pressure sending unit. I wouldn't try to use any other tool as you would probably break the new sending unit during installation.

Did the oil light come on when you first start the car? At idle, I mean? Or did it stay on while driving?

And how did your husband disconnect the oil light? If he disconnected it at the oil sending unit--where Crewzin has supplied a diagram--then maybe the light will just continue to stay on because the oil sending unit wire is grounded. That's just a guess, because I've never heard of someone disconnecting the oil sending unit--and just leaving it like that.

Last week my wife reported that our PT oil light would come on when she first started the car--it was at idle, naturally. Then she turned off the engine and started it again--and no light came on. This happened a few times--but not always. Oil was full--and no funny smells.

I had the oil sender replaced for cheap (with someone who had a lift, because it's a bear to get to the unit with jackstands, only). I bought the oil sending unit at the dealer--no aftermarket electric items for me.

The problem is solved.

Tim
