From a Google search...

I own a 02 pt cruiser. The speedometer and tachnometer stopped working. What is causing this? How do I fix it? - Yahoo! Answers

Just for the heck of it. Do you know the trick of making all the dials do a "check"?

Put the key int the ignition and before turning it forward, push and hold the odometer reset button. Don't turn the engine on when you turn the key forward. What this does is make everything in all three gauges start to do a check of the system. It starts out by checking all the numbers in the middle dial ex: 1111111 then 2222222 etc. Then it goes to the gas gauge needle and makes it go 1/3 of the way up, then half way, then 2/3rds then all the way to past full, then it goes to each needle in all three gauges and tests them. Try that to see if your speed dial does the test.

You don't have to hold the reset button after the test starts.

Only problem is, if it works, it only proves that the needle isn't broken. Doesn't really help with the problem your having.

Well all of the gauges and the odo worked but i took it for a test drive and still does not mark the speed, You've probably given me all your suggestions and for that i thank you but i will continue to find the problem, i am a ASE master certified technician believe it or not and i have never encountered this problem out of all the years ive been working.

Sorry it didn't help. ...when you say you changed the sensors, did you mean the one on the transaxle itself? The speedo works off the transmission.
