Why distilled water only?

I hope this isn't a stupid question, but why can the HOAT coolant only be mixed with distilled water? I have an RO/DI setup in my basement that produces 0 TDS and I thought this was the best method to acheive pure H2O. Anybody know why RO/DI water can't be used? Is it too stripped?

I don't know but distiller water is about $1 - $2 at CVS or Walgreen ;)

Yeah, I know it's not expensive by any means, just curious if anybody knew.

The dealer has a premix gallon of red 5 year coolant for $14+/-, so I'll just get that. Hopefully they mixed it with distilled water.:laughing::laughing:

Mainly because they don't want you to use the crap that comes out of your home tap. The impurities, minerals and chemicals in tap water could possibly cause corrosion in the coolant which will deteriorate your cooling system over time.

I was just curious because they included deionized water in the do not use list in my manual. Maybe it was just DI was and RO/DI water is fine. But, I'll just go with the premix to be safe.

It IS MOPAR and somewhere it should have "Hybrid Organic Acid Technology (HOAT) written on it, which is what's recommended for the PT.

I just picked up the gallon of 50/50 delutted coolant, but I couldn't find HOAT on the label. It's number is MS-9769G, which from reading is supposed to be the right stuff. But, why make the manual say HOAT if the bottles are not going to say it.

Distilled water goes in the radiator. Prevents minerals and other chemicals from building up in there over time.

Deionized water goes in the battery.
