Myself and countless others have done the MX-5 mod at least 6 months ago with no harm being done to the engine or transmission...so far.

Ernie,
MX-5's mod has nothing to do with codes being set or checking them. The normal shift between 1st and 2nd gear is soft and slow because the computer shuts off the injectors for a split second(and something else which skips my mind right now). The mod of cutting the wire allows the shift to happen instantaneously and gives you a little extra push going into 2nd gear.

Did MX-5's shift mod 38,000 miles ago ('01 PT now has 72,000 miles) and no problem.

I have an 03 touring edition, automatic. Can you provide aditional info on this mod? I tried the link in the first post and it would not function. Then tried the PT do it your self site only to find ya gotta pay to read the articles. Anyway, I like the idea of snappier shifts, and I like free, so.............. can some one provide additional info on this mod?? additional pictures, or anything?
Thanks,
Scott

Sorry Scott I'm pretty positive that MX-5's mod won't work for your 2003 PT...only on the earlier models.
