Cool Oxygen sensor

I have a 2009 PT cruiser and I got error code P0038 that stands for " Circuit High (Bank 1 Sensor 2)".

I know the car user oxygen sensor usually one pre and 1 post catalyst.

Can you help me out which one is the Bank 1 Sensor 2?

Also I have read that its better to change both instead of only one. What is your suggestion about this?

I believe it's the sensor by the CAT and unless you did something like take on leaded fuel and ruin both sensors, changing one should be good enough. Yo might have just got a faulty one especially since it's an 09. I changed both at 100,000 miles just because I though it was about time.

How many oxygen sensor the 2009 has?

Do you have a graphic to make sure which one is the Oxygen sensor we are talking about here that gives me the error code P0038?

I am confused if the sensor its the one at the manifold or the one inthe middle of the catalyst converter but not sure if there is one after the catalyst....

All PT's have two. One just on top of the exhaust minifold and one on the left of the CAT. There's a couple fault codes for the bad 02 sensor, P0038 is one of them. I only have a graphic for the Upstream sensor. The book only tells you where the other one is by the left side of the CAT.

Question Re: Oxygen sensor

what does the:

upstream oxygen sensor 1/1
downstream oxygen sensor 1/2

Circuit High (Bank 1 Sensor 2) - this is the one faulty on my car.

stands for?

ALSO, does the 2.4L turbo has the oxygen sensor differntly than the 2.0 and 2.4?

Sensor 2 is post-catalyst.

Changing both is always recommended since one failing usually means the other isn't in much better shape. But, they are not a big hassle to get to so if the code is for #2 only, I don't see any real reason to change both.

myanez,

Are you trolling the forum? You've asked over half a dozen question for one tiny fault.

Change the 02 sensor by the CAT. Period!

Tiny for you that obviously know all about PT Cruisers. Huge for me that is the first car and problem that I have with oxygen sensors.

By the way, thank you for your previous answers and pictures. Now, going back to my questions that no one seems to answer and will help me understand better about oxygen sensor on PT cruisers.

You are telling me to change the upstream sensor around the manifold but the error that I get is P0038 that stands for "Circuit High (Bank 1 Sensor 2)".

If there are only two oxygen sensor why the bank 1 sensor 2 or 1/1 or 1/2....This is what gets me confused. Shouldn't it be the downstream oxygen sensor 1/2 (refering to bank 1 sensor 2).

What does the numbers at the end of the following info stands for?
upstream oxygen sensor 1/1
downstream oxygen sensor 1/2

I will appreciate a full/complete answer but if you feel that I am trolling the forum please by all means, let someone else with more detail knowledge fully answer my question.

Nowhere did I say that you should change the upstream sensor. I told you to change the one by the CAT and that IS the downstream sensor.

That's it from me. we'll see if anyone has something else for you. The only other person that jumped in also said to change the sensor by the CAT.

Wow, Sorry we all don't know as much as you do! Common sense to some, is not common sense to others. Found this pictures from the web....

Thank you again.
