Question air conditioner doesn't work... problem with switch

it has freeon but something's wrong with the switch. When I try to turn the heat or the air on when I turn the switch it doesn't turn on until I turn it all the way up (on both sides) and when it is all the way up I think it's just the blower, I know the air isn't working but it's too hot to tell if the heat is working or if it's just the blower. Thanks for any help or suggestions, I don't know anything about cars! (btw it's a 2003 pt crusier if that matters)

If you nothing about cars, how do you know your freon is full and up to pressure on both the high and low side? I've never seen the A/C switch in the interior go bad.

my dad recharged the freon. Other than that I was just saying that the switch that you turn the air and heat on only turns on when it's all the way up to full blast but when it turns on I think it's just the blower because I don't feel cold air come out. When it's on the first few notches it doesn't do anything at all (then it turns on when it gets all the way to the last notch)

OK, you have two separate problems as far as I can tell. If you look at the schematic below of the parts that run the A/C and Heat, you only have one fan (Blower Motor) so if only your High Speed internal fan is working, you either have a bad A/C Heater Control Switch or maybe one of the two fuses (#7 and #10) that run the system.

On the warm air, that could be a few different things. Starting with the fuse block in the interior, check #12. There's also a fuse/relay box in the engine compartment and you need to check fuse #12. Now you need to find out if the compressor is running when you turn on the A/C control (which isn't working properly). If the compressor isn't running, one of the switches (High or Low Pressure Switch) could be bad.

I think your gonna need some professional help by a qualified A/C specialist.

wow, ok thanks! I think you are right about having someone else look at it but I do feel better having an idea of what's wrong and maybe I can at least get an estimate over the phone now! Thanks!
