Default Still Overheating?

Good evening all. Hope everyone is staying cool this weekend. Unfortunately my poor car isn't.

2001 PT Cruiser overheating. 134k miles I replaced:
Water pump
Timing belt (needed it)
fan
hi/low relays
sensor at base of thermostat
radiator (was clogged)
radiator cap

System was flushed and refilled. Bled out air, sat overnight and topped off.
Drove in 90 degree heat with A/C on (fan came on when a/c was running) and overheated within 20 miles. Coolant sounded like it was boiling and discharged into/out of the reservior (where it was also boiling). Temp at the upper and lower hose was 165. Temp at base of thermostat was 192. Temp at reservior was 195.

No smoke in exhaust and oil is clear. No exhaust in coolant that I can see (no bubbles)

I had originally replaced the thermostat at the onset of the problem. Is there a chance it went bad from the overheating? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Not much else I can replace at this point.

You most likely still have air or a clog, take the cap off and than start the PT and let it run and hopefully it will get all the air out through the cap. You will need some extra Hoat antifreeze because some will boil out until the air is out and than you will see it flow without bubbling. Also did the high speed fan come on?

thanks Dino. I am going to replace the antifreeze anyway because the mechanic did not use Hoat. I will replace the thermostat as well as a precaution in the event something is going on there. Let you know how it works.

What the hell are these guys doing. They should know to use Hoat.

Is it overheating while moving or standing still? If it's when you're standing still it's an air circulation issue and if it's when you're moving it's a water circulation issue. Did you have the antifreeze tested for hydrocarbons? That might be the only way to tell if exhaust gas is the cause.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I did some work on it today. I pulled the thermostat and ran the engine. Plenty of circulation. Installed new thermostat and flushed the system. Put in Zerex G05 and bled. Slight air bubbles in system then steady stream. Ran in driveway for 10 minutes with a/c on. Index right in middle. Drove 10 minutes with a/c on and heat spiked. Made it home with heater blasting. Coolant boiling in the reservior. Back to the drawing board. Any thoughts? No white smoke. Oil is clean. Could there be a blockage somewhere up in the engine that is stopping the flow?

I read in a mechanics column in my local newspaper about exhaust causing your exact problem. You may need a professional to properly diagnose. Did you perform a pressure check or an exhaust gas analysis on the cooling system?

Have you been able to locate the source of your problem?

Sorry for the delayed response. Apparently I had a combination of issues that were started by a blown fan motor and a water pump issue. Clearing those issues up revealed the poor circulation in the radiator. Changing the radiator cleared up the circulation issue but revealed that the overheating had damaged the head gasket and allowed exhaust to enter the cooling system and increase pressure at highway speeds to the point that the coolant would be blown out into the reservior, lowering the coolant level and overheating the engine. Installed a new head gasket and all is well.

I genuinely appreciate all the help from the folks on this forum!
