Autostick is an option on alot of Chrysler products(it is the shifter & PCM control not the trans at all)--- on the PT--usually the GT-turbo it lets you shift the trans with a bump to each gear( trans is same---- it all operates with the shifter & PCM)-- other manufacturers have the same thing with different names-works fine(has nothing to do with HP).MJB

yea for me that i have driven stick already and auto in the pt is slow. self shifting would be great. less weight then manual because u have the clutch u have to press and carry when all you need to do in autostick is just shift by hand no need for clutch and extra weight

If you are going to mod the engine for more power you should go with a 5speed. Unfortunately the PT automatic transmission is pretty weak. In the other hand the 5 speed ( Getrag 288) is good for more than 400HP.
Plus a stock PT with 5 speed is a LOT faster than an automatic or autostick.

Well, for the most part gearing is what makes a manual faster than an auto (if we take the same car with same engine/tuning).

Of course, driver mod plays a more important role in driving a manual.

As for the PT Automatics, don't plan on putting any real power down if you don't want to rebuild your transmission. The 41TE will croak at the sign of power, though as a daily driver if you take care of it there's no need to worry.

I had alot of mods on my PT GT (autostick) yet even at 125k+miles the tranny held up wonderfully.

I don't really know how much HP can a auto transmission take, but I've seen them failing with the non turbo engine so I can only imagine with a turbo.( My wife's N/A broke at 78k miles) I know a guy going to his fourth transmission already
And for the 5 speed been faster, I believe has to do with torque. And you need to know how to shift fast
