Angry Baffling Tranny Problem

Ok guys, here's an interesting one for you. I have been on the forum before and I can not find anyone with the same problem. So any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 2007 Pacific Coast Highway Edition with 65,xxx miles on it. I have the same shifting when its hot issues like most people with a 5speed manual. However, When I drove to work the other day I down shifted into 2nd and something just didn't seem right. When I got to work and put the car in first the car was making a metallic grinding noise. Almost like something was spinning around against something. This noise will only happen when the car is in gear. No matter what gear! The very moment that I take it out of gear and put it into neutral the noise goes away. When it neutral it doesnt matter if i press the clutch or not the noise isn't there.

The car will still go fulling into gear and it will drive fine and shifts normal. What the hell can this be!??!?!?!?!??!?!??!!??!?!?!

Dunno - but first thing I'd check is fluid level in gearbox - there's a fill plug - take it out and stick you finger in and make sure there's oil in it (Believe it takes ATF + 4)

yup all the manual transmissions take atf+4 except the '01's. Like QSD suggested check the fluid level, might also be a great idea to do a drain and refill with fresh fluid.

There's been many, many posts on this on Neon boards.
however these noises occur anytime input shaft's engaged-
IOW, the clutch isn't depressed.

There's not much on output shaft; some found noise associated with
severely worn synchros, this would only make sense on 1-2, which are on output shaft. (Background)

It's very easy to remove bellousing and look, harder to get trans out!

Before you let the stealer steal it for next to nothing, you should try selling it on your own. That edition maybe rare, but not sure.

For the trans?

These are very inexpensive and usually very reliable transmissions.

I have two in my basement now (They're both 3.55's) that'd go for low triple digits.

New repair parts are inexpensive, and it's an EZ trans to service

The ONLY application they seem to have problems when old is dirt track, constantly jumping out of 3d gear.

Last, I'm only guessing over the internet, get someone local (try Neon boards) to look at it.
