Cool Cruiser Not Starting & Not Cruising!

For 3 weeks now I have had problems with my 2001 PT Cruiser.
I had the cable to the battery replaced assuming it had a break in it.
Then it worked for a day!
I had my starter and cylinoid replaced.
Then it worked for a day!
I had my battery replaced.
Then it worked for a day!
It would not start last night when I came out of work, tapped the starter and it went. (It had been raining)
Took it back to the mechanic today and it keeps starting for him. They misted it with water to see if that did anything. They are stuck on what the heck is wrong.
I am starting think it has a crush on the mechanic and is mad at me!
Can anyone help me?

When you say not starting, do you mean not cranking or just not starting? It sounds like the former to me.

Unhappy Re: Cruiser Not Starting & Not Cruising!

It will not start. I have my dash lights and windows will go up and down. I had someone tap on the starter while I started it and it started. Mechanic says he cannot get it to do the same thing for him so he does not want to put another starter in. He says this may not be the problem and does not know what is.

OK, three choices. The main wire from the positive side of the battery to the starter is corroded or just plain bad. The starter solenoid (attached to the starter is bad (could have a dead spot in it) or the starter is bad. Older cars used to get bad starters all the time and we used to craw under and bang on the starter till it went.

I remember reading that you can't buy the starter by itself and have to buy it with the solenoid attached. That would solve 2 out of the 3 things that could be wrong but check that thick green wire from the battery first. Any corrosion anywhere around where it attaches to the battery or starter and it should be replaced.
