Default P0340M Code

My PT just shut off as I was driving 60 mph. I checked the codes, and it showed, P0340(M). had it towed to my mechanic and he said my engine is "blown" and explained the "interference engine" problems. If I'm only getting a "P0340(M)" is my engine REALLY trashed?

This whole "interference engine" thing is new to me. I ASSumed he knew what he was talking about. Or at least I don't know enough about it to correct him. Looks like more research and a tow job to another mechanic.
Thanks for the reply!

Im certain everyone on here says its a nonI engine. If someone else pops on here to verify then id get a second opinion.. What seems to be wrong besides the code? What kind of pt do u have? Turbo?

p0340 is just a bad camshaft sensor.
It is a non-interference engine...but maybe you broke the timing belt and bent the valves if your engine was at high speed when it broke.

02' non-turbo. 107k miles. Was perfect until 3 days ago. The P0340(M) refers to "No Cam Signal At PCM / No Fuel Sync." It acted like the fuel pump had gone out. No noises at all. Was like someone turned off the key.

Will thecar even run with a bad cam sensor? Is your timing belt broke? Its possible if you havent already replaced it that the timing belt couldve broke which causes the vehicle to shut down. I think from what ive heard fro. Crewzin that only like 1 or 2 folks whove ever been on here with timing belt break at hwy speeds had bent valves.

Still if your mechanic says your engines "blown" and couples that by saying its an interferance engine that tells me that he may be wrong.

Does it do anything if yu try to start the car? What specifically did the mech say was blown in the engine? Cracked block? Warped heads? Bent valves? And how did he know.

If is a p0340 is just the camshaft sensor and the engine will not start.

But if you were doing 60mph and your timing belt broke maybe you bent a valve so you will need head work and will give you the same p0340 code.

But your mechanic is wrong in one think: the engine is a NON-INTERFERENCE

How did he get to the conclusion that the engine was trashed? did he see a broken belt? if he did, tell him to pull the upper timing belt cover and try to start the engine and see if the belt turns...if it does, he is full of shit

I agree with xtrm. Id do the same thing. Chances are u just need a new cam sensor or some other thing. I wouldnt see that blowing up ur engine. If ur timing belt and cam sensor conveinently died at the same moment thatd be interesting lol

I still say to get someone else to look at it or have the mechanic be more specific to you.
