Default A/C operating issues!

Hi, I am new to the forum. We bought our PT only a week ago. It is a 2008 that only had 3800 miles on it when we bought it..thats right 3800! Car looks and smells like new. However, I am having a A/C issue that I can't seem to fiqure out. When the A/C is on "Face" it works fine, if you select "Face & Feet" on the dial the A/C turns off and the A/C light goes out. If you turn the dial to "Feet" the recycle light goes out and stops the recycle cabin function. It came to my attention that the A/C was added after the fact, and the dealer would not check it out for me because of that, even though the Car was purchased there. I did have the shop that installed the system check it out and he said that the test on the computer did not throw any codes. He called a so called expert and claims that this is the way the system works. My question; does anyone have the same issue with their A/C or are these guys blowing smoke? Some how this just doesn't make sense. Thanks for the help!
