Default Tranny swap

Has any one switched there tranny and gotten better performance? Does any one know what I mean like how first and second gear are slow. Are the srt-4 trannys faster and the same as our pt trannys? Just wondering. Or should I simply take my auto knowledge and just do a turbo engine swap?

What car do you have? My first and second gears are not slow...My only complaint is that I spin too much.

Oh that's a different history....The GT tranny is a heady duty one and can handle more than 500hp..

Ohh I know who you are now...You should stick with the 5 speed GT tranny, which is a Getrag 288 and can handle 500hp or more... same thing with the engine, go with a GT engine. The GT auto tranny is garbage, is the same used on N/A cars and they are known for breaking pretty easy on modded PTs.

Yea I want a gt engine or the turbo engine and rebuild it. Is there a auto tranny that can hold the 600 hp? That's my plan is to bet the 600 mark set by that total sleeper but with a pt engine rebuild.

Most logical and economical solution is to find a PT GT equipped with a 5-speed.

If you insist on having an automatic for reasons unknown, don't ever boost in 4th (overdrive).

There used to be a guy awhile ago that would beef up the 41TE (auto tranny) but even then it was recommended not to boost in 4th often if at all. You won't find him anymore but I'm sure if you google enough you'll find some info about what was done and what parts were used.

So again, find a GT...they don't go for alot anyways. The money you'll save with swapping engines/transmissions/etc. can be used for beefing up the engine/tranny that's in the GT. Plus you won't take a hit in terms of value on your current PT.
