Default Engine Light

OK guys and guyetes...several motnths ago my engine light came on. being old school the first thing I checked was the oil level..it was low so I added a quart and low and behold the light went out. Satisfied with myself I told my mechanic . He said that the light has nothing to do with oil level. I looked in the owners manual and found out that he was right...hmmm. Just last week the same light came on..checked the oil and it was low again...added a quart and the light went out ...again...so what is going on...any ideas.....wires crossed? '06 PT with 52,000 miles and no problems before.

Robbie, or is it Bobbie?

I moved your post over to the TECH section as you had attached you question to the GAME thread.

You said the engine light came on. If it was the engine light and not the oil light, it means one of the sensors detected something it didn't like. When it does this it sets a fault code in the computer and turns on that engine light. So, you need to find out what the computer code is saying.

click here and follow the instructions to find a fault code on your odometer dial. The code will look something like this. P0340 (just different numbers).

How to retrieve fault codes.

As far as loosing oil. Are you seeing any drips/puddles on the ground? You can check the coolant to see if there's any signs of oil getting into it and look for any tel-tale signs of white smoke out the tailpipe.

How's it been running? Any "missing" at idle or "stumbling" when you give it gas?
Sometimes engine light comes on - like for a misfire - then goes out when problem no longer exists.
As to oil consumption, aside from leaks, the PCV valve....
